Romance authors have a job that they aren’t even aware of.
People use media to learn what love is. That’s because human behavior is learned through observation and modeling. Sadly, many people don’t have a correct or positive model of what love is. Therefore media such as porn, movies, TV shows, and yes even romance books teach people what love is, how to find it, and what to do with it when they have it.
That’s why it’s so important that Romance authors, specifically Christian Romance authors, work to portray love accurately. Christian authors are lucky because we have the real definition of love to use as a guideline. That is Yah for he IS love. Scripture says that we love because he first loved us. Therefore, our understanding of and capacity to love comes from the direct source of love.
“We have come to know and have believed the love which God has for us. God is love, and the one who abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him.”
1 John 4:16
